MY STORY:
I grew up in a beautiful, loving Christian home. I've always known God as my heavenly Daddy and I from a young age I formed a strong faith in Jesus that has stood the test of five decades full of ups and downs and personal challenges.
Whilst coming from an evangelical Anglican background, my faith is ecumenical in the broadest sense. I love both the traditions of the church and finding fresh, creative, relevant ways of expressing faith in Jesus. I'm open to people of all faiths, backgrounds, and walks of life, and seeing God from new perspectives.
I am grateful to my parents and their spiritual influence throughout my life. I'm thankful that I married a faithful, Christian man who was dedicated to bringing up our two children, and two foster children we helped care for, with a strong sense of faith and Christian community. However, there came a time about 15 years ago when I began noticing subtle shifts in my thinking. I sat listening to conversations feeling uneasy about the strong, judgmental stances that were taken on various issues. Uneasiness became heaviness, and I felt the weight that came from living faith as obediently as I could, but not understanding why it felt so burdensome. At times, it felt like I was under a form of spiritual duress, like an invisible gun was pointed to my head demanding that I tow the line 'or else'! I gave without restraint. I loved sacrificially without self-care. The result was a personal burnout.
With burnout came fear: Fear of losing everything because I could no longer adhere to all the rules I was taught to obey. Fear of being rejected, losing friends, losing my church, losing my family... But that's what happened. I lost. BIG TIME.
My marriage crumbled. I ended up living back with my parents. I was displaced from my home, family, and church community. I found myself needing a whole lot of healing, questioning everything about my faith and understanding of theology. What followed was a decade of reconstructing my theology, finding a new church home, recreating my life, and discovering a love for personal development and a passion for helping people work through seasons of spiritual crisis.
It breaks my heart that the church - which is supposed to providing life-breathing joy in living in relationship with Jesus - can turn theology into something that is harmful, controlling, manipulative, and destructive. I have re-purposed my life to help people recover from spiritual wounds and find a new spiritual awakening that is in alignment with their values and a far healthier belief system. If that's you, or someone you know, please get in touch. I'd love to help.
At ReCompass I offer my clients a space simply to breathe.
People, at times, reach a place where they feel like their faith and life are unravelling. They fear change, rejection, judgment, and even displacement for daring to disagree with the status quo, or go against their upbringing or religious social circle. Wanting to break free of belief systems or rule-based theology can be a scary and lonely space to be. I reassure my clients that they are not alone on their journey and that I'm here to offer support, direction, and best coaching practices in a judgment-free environment, to guide them through the complexities of spiritual trauma, relationship dysfunction, and theological reconstruction.
I provide a safe space for people to question and challenge their theology, identify limiting beliefs that are holding them back, deal with the emotional roller coaster that comes with changing one's belief structure, and discover how to live by their truest values with confidence and authenticity.
My approach to coaching is rooted in positive psychology, NLP and Matrix Therapies, based on a strong theological foundation. I work collaboratively with my clients to help them identify beliefs and systems that have been harmful to their faith, untangle unhelpful theology, heal from abusive relationships, reconstruct their beliefs and values and discover life-breathing spirituality with - or without - the church. I believe that coaching is a process of self-discovery, and I am committed to providing a supportive and non-judgmental space for my clients to explore their spiritual self.
I offer a range of coaching services, including one-on-one coaching sessions, group coaching, workshops, public speaking and online courses.
I love helping leaders cultivate vibrant, inclusive communities where people feel accepted and safe, where they can express their faith with respectful freedom, where loving healing is inevitable, and where people can feel like they truly belong - just as they are.
